BE A SPONSOR OF THE HELICOPTER AND MEMBER OF THE TEAM
Dale County Sheriff Department and Dothan Police Department are in the partnership of the helicopter. It is a valuable resource. Also in the partnership is Houston County, the City of Enterprise, Dale County, City of Ozark, and Dothan-Houston County Emergency Management.
They are a member of the WASP Program. WASP is the Wiregrass Aviation Support Program and is a 501 ( c ) ( 3 ).
If you would like to be a member of the WASP Program you can be by sending a tax deductible donation to Wiregrass Aviation Support Program % Dale County Sheriff Department, 113 West Reynolds, Ozark, Al. 36360.
They need to raise $ 150,000.00 for a specialized instrument that it is phenomenal what it can do.
They have directed police to the suspect(s), rescue an autistic child who would hav died if this resource was not available.
Drones are good and help in immediate areas and immediate deployment. Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza was a visionary and began a drone unit. The drones are great to fly up to a house and look in the window.
But the drone can not do what the helicopter does. It flies overhead watching over officers, provides lights for a situation, can follow a suspect while being chased where officers can stop their hot pursuit while the helicopter flies overhead keeping officers informed where they can get into a position to cut the vehicle off.
The WASP Air units from Dothan and Dale County assist Houston, Dale, Pike, Barbour, Coffee, Covington, Geneva, Butler and Crenshaw County. The helicopter, once in the air, can be from Ozark airport to Andalusia in about 15 minutes.
The WASP program has volunteer pilots, better trained pilots, and more of them then does the State of Alabama.
The $ 150,000.00 instrument, normally $ 750,000.00, will enhance the capabilities of the aircraft and assist them in apprehension of suspect(s) and the protection of lives.
