DOTHAN: At 12:00 PM Houston County Sheriff's Deputies called out with a firearm assault on South Oates at Gaines. One person was shot in the ribs and was treated and transported to the hospital by ambulance. The crime scene in in the 1900 block of South Oates. Multiple Dothan Police and Houston County Deputies are on the scene.

Houston County Sheriff Lt. Brandon Simmons came up on a black male subject on South Oates Street and Gaines Street that said he had been shot. The subject apparently had two gunshot wounds, one of which was to the chest.


Multiple Houston County Sheriff Deputies, Dothan Police Officers to include Dothan Police Chief Will Benny, Dothan Fire Department and Pilcher Ambulance responded to the scene.


Emergency Medical Treatment was provided on the scene. The patient was placed in Pilcher Ambulance and transported to a Dothan hospital.


Officers, acting on preliminary information rapidly responded north on Oates to where information provided suspect(s) ran.


Dothan Police Officers and Houston County Sheriff Deputies then responded north to a house, like the third house from Gaines and Oates Street. This is apparently where the firearm assault occurred.


Sources close to the investigation stated there were several subjects in the house. An apparent argument took place. One subject pulled a firearm and shot another in front of several people.


Dothan Police Criminal Investigators and Dothan Police Crime Scene Investigators are gathering evidence and statements.


Law Enforcement has issued a BOLO ( Be On Look Out ) for a possible suspect.

Dothan Police continue to work crime scene and area, even while raining. Officers out in the rain conducting investigation.


Dothan Traffic Engineering responded with traffic cones and placed them on the scene to help with traffic control.
