DOTHAN - HOUSTON COUNTY:     This article is going to chap people. And if it does not chap them, oh well, it means I did not write it correctly. If it chaps you and slaps some up side the head, well then ..., that is my intentions.

At 2:28 PM Houston County Sheriff 911 dispatched a motor vehicle accident in the 7900 block of U.S. Highway 231 South of Dothan.

A family of six, husband - wife - three children, one of which is six years old, and mother in law. Their vehicle is totaled.

A fireman from the scene called me and asked could I respond to the scene of the accident to assist in transporting them to the motel. Their two year old foot is hurting but think okay. They are from Atlanta Georgia area. They have full coverage automobile insurance.

In Dothan-Houston County there are no rental cars available. We got them to a motel. I began searching for a church van or mini bus and would carry them home. Could not find one.

This article has been written before urging churches to step up to the plate. Across the 582 square miles of Houston County there are probably more than 100 churches. You have mini buses and vans which sit there all week except Sunday and Wednesday's. 

After the article only two peopled called and both were businessman. Not one single church of the 100 or so across the 582 square miles of this county has offered to step up to the plate. None, no not one.

I am ashamed and give a STUPID SLAP UP SIDE THE HEAD to the more than 100 churches across Dothan and Houston County. We are suppose to take care of people. Someone traveling through Dothan-Houston County, their vehicle totaled, no rental vehicles, and help them. I have personally carried people, even to Blountstown Florida to meet family who their vehicle is totaled.

There is no reason the churches can not step up to the plate and provide this ministry. You might win someone to everlasting life if you tried!!!

I am a nothing and not worthy of a lot of things. People cuss me all of the time. Some of those in power who are critical of me, one female this week.  

Those elected, the Commissioner who represent the District where the accident occurred, he draws two county paychecks and $ 250.00 a month to furnish his own vehicle but drives his Sheriff Department vehicle. He has the pastor on speed dial. Has he helped to solve this problem? No. Just the volunteers in his community. Lord forbid someone call that Commissioner to help.

Needless to say, I am totally at a loss for words that the church community does not care enough to step up to the plate. Not one single one.

If you were traveling with your family, on a Saturday, in a town where you did not know anyone, your vehicle totaled ... no rental cars, what kind of positive impact in the Name of Jesus Christ would you have to someone that the community took care of the family? 

And if you did not have faith and believe in Jesus, and the community of believers took care of your family, could you have a impact on that life that was positive?

STUPID SLAP...

This family rented a U-Haul truck. Unpacked the compact car of relatives who were north of Dothan and returned. Everything was loaded in the UHAUL to make the trip to Atlanta area. Some of the kids are in car seats.

It is virtually impossible for a rental vehicle in Dothan area on the weekends. That makes it harder for people passing through and are involve din an accident.

THANKS to Kenny Glasgow who called and willing to rent a vehicle to get these people home. THANKS to Harvest Church for calling to make sure these people were taken care of. Also thanks to the several individuals who called. One was an offer for the people to come stay at their home.

This is a issue I have sounded before. What is needed is someone who has a bus, not the large size but a smaller type bus or can who will be on call to help people. Imagine going through a town, you do not know anyone, you vehicle is wrecked and no rental vehicles available.

This happens and law enforcement are often times the ones having to make arrangements. The police car was equipped with radios, computers, printers and more. This causes difficulty for someone, then the cage of the back seat, for the law enforcement officer to transport.

I have done articles before stating the need for this. It could happen to any of us while traveling.
