HOUSTON COUNTY: 6:19 AM. HOUSTON COUNTY SHERIFF DEPUTIES responding to a burglary in progress at 6594 Highway 231 South encountered the suspect(s) when arriving on the scene.
At this time it is unknown the exact set of circumstances which followed. We know shots were exchanged and it appears a Sheriff Tahoe pinned a vehicle behind what was Florida Microfilm.
Houston County Deputies requested EMS and shortly thereafter requested fire because the suspect(s) had set the vehicle on fire.
Rehobeth EMS, Hodgesville Volunteer Fire, Dothan Fire Engine 2 ( Lakewood ), Pilcher Ambulance responded to the scene.
The suspect(s) is deceased on the scene.
Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza and members of the Sheriff Command Staff are on the scene.
UPDATED @ 10:53 AM.
UNCONFIRMED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT but information from reliable sources.
The building owner had a number of air conditioners on this building. In recent weeks some were stolen.
The business owner installed cameras which alerted him to movement. When he logged in he observed the male subject apparently stealing the air conditioners.
As Houston County Sheriff Deputies rolled in, alleged the suspect jumped in his vehicle targeting the deputies bodies as he was fleeing.
It is unknown if he fired a weapon but a vehicle coming towards you and refusing to stop is a person using deadly physical force.
This resulted in the deputies having to use deadly physical force. At the same time a Houston County Sheriff Deputy arriving struck the vehicle which hit a tree which resulted in air bag deployment. That is what was thought to be the fire.
Dothan Police and Dothan Fire responded to assist which was after deadly physical force was deployed.
Again, this is UNCONFIRMED by officials but what information I have learned basically took place.
