DALE COUNTY: Shortly after 2 PM this afternoon Dale County Sheriff Wally Olson and Dale Sheriff Chief Deputy Mason Bynum responded to a scene where someone came across a body in the woods.
The scene was on Dale County Road 20 at Woodham’s Bridge. This is north of Midland City.
Sheriff Olson, Chief Deputy Bynum and Dothan Police Chief Will Benny were in a lunch meeting discussing some issues when Sheriff Olson received the call. At the request of Sheriff Olson Chief Benny dispatched Dothan Criminal Investigation Division Commander Lt. Scott Owens, several Criminal Investigators, Crime Scene Investigator and Forensic Crime Scene Investigator.
The body was in a decomposed state when found. The combined Dale County Sheriff and Dothan Police Criminal and Crime Scene Investigators examined the scene and looked for evidence.
Dale County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene. District Attorney Kirke Adams directed a forensic autopsy to be conducted by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences. Sheriff Olson and Chief Deputy Bynum could not comment at this time other than a decomposed body had been found. They will await forensic autopsy results.
