DOTHAN:     5:12 PM    Dothan 911 dispatched Dothan Police, Dothan Fire and Pilcher Ambulance to a motor vehicle accident with injuries. The location was in the 5500 block of West Main Street.

The 5500 block of West Main Street is at Westwood Church which sits just east of West Main Street and Brannon Stand.

Dothan Fire Engine 8 ( Highlands ) was dispatched. While emergency units were rolling Dothan 911 updated the information that one patient was complaining of a possible broken arm.

On the arrival of Dothan FIre Battalion Chief a second Pilcher Ambulance was requested which is responding.

RSN is at Prevatt and Ross Clark Circle and not near the scene. Anyone with scene pictures or information TEXT RICKEY 334-790-1729.

The first ambulance left the accident site at 5:35 PM with one patient, transporting non emergency to a Dothan hospital.

The second Pilcher Ambulance arrived on the scene of the accident at 5:37 PM.

Dothan Fire Command is releasing the second Pilcher Ambulance from the scene with no transport. All other parties are going to transport by private auto.

NOTE:  

The following is written THANKFUL the other parties do not need an ambulance. However I wish to make a point here. A second ambulance was requested and it responded. Pilcher Ambulance is a private and not a public business. Two trained and licensed medical staff on a $ 150,000.00 to $ 200,000.00 ambulance responded emergency all through town and traffic to the accident After arrival the parties decided to go to the hospital by private auto. And that is great.

But Pilcher Ambulance has no one to bill for their services. The response, insurance, vehicle, fuel, labor has been for free. This is not a complaint bit is meant to point out, a lot of emergency runs by ambulances ends in no transport or transporting people with no insurance.

Just the electric cot for a ambulance, which is a necesary item, is $ 50,000.00 plus dollars, the monitors, which are required are around $ 50,000.00 plus dollars, the ambulance, new, begins at over $ 100,000.00 new. Plus all equipment and supplies.

So the operation of a EMS service is expensive. A ambulance responds and stands by for three hours at a structure fire and no injuries and transports, that is three hours of cost sitting there with no one to bill. So a free service.

Again, glad the injuries were not to the extent EMS transport was needed. But the cost is expensive to operate EMS and 911 calls are  not money makers.
