OZARK:     5:00 PM.    A personnel hearing was scheduled for 5 PM before the Ozark City Council. It was scheduled to begin at 5 PM.


The Ozark Mayor, Mark Blakenship and the Council President were called into a behind the doors meeting with Joe Adams, Attorney for City of Ozark and the attorney for Ozark Police Chief Marlos Walker.


We are told the hearing will begin soon as they open/close the door with fingers summoning people to the Mayor‘s complex.


5:32 PM Ozark Mayor Mark Blakenship is in the Council Chambers and everyone is sitting and waiting.

The attorney’s for the City of Ozark and Ozark Police Chief Marlos Walker stated the meeting has been requested to be in an Executive Session at the request of Ozark Police Chief Marlos Walker.


WTVY Ken Curtis objected stating that Executive Session was a violation of Alabama Law concerning anyone who files a Statement of Economic Interest form. The attorney’s disagreed and Walker’s attorney read some of the law. Then WTVY Ken Curtis stated the attorney read part of the law and not all of the law.


The council voted UNANIMOUSLY to enter into an Executive Session. Curtis asked it to be noted in the minutes the media objected. The Council President said that was noted.


With all of that said the council exited the chambers and adjourned behind closed doors for the hearing.

The members of Ozark City Council came back into the meeting and reconvened the meeting.


The Council President said there was a Confidential Settlement with Ozark Police Chief Marlos Walker. That settlement was not disclosed.


The Ozark City Council then accepted the resignation of Marlos Walker as Ozark Police Chief.


When questioned about the legality of a confidential settlement without a civil action being filed. The Attorney advised the Council President it was legal.


The Council President was asked of Marlos Walker was reinstated as a Police Chief or Police Officer And then placed on Administrative Leave. The Council President said as Police Chief.


Retired ALEA Colonel Charles Ward remains Interim Police Chief.
