HOUSTON COUNTY: At 4:50 PM.. A Houston County Deputy noticed a vehicle swerving all over the road and is reported to have hit a mailbox on US 84 near Cowarts.

The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle and the driver took off. The deputy gave chase on a possible white 4 door vehicle. The chase traveled back west on EAST Main to the Ross Clark Circle, then took a right onto the Circle and went around to Montgomery Hwy, the vehicle took a right onto Montgomery hwy

The driver was last seen heading north on Montgomery Hwy passing Academy Sports.

The Houston County Sheriff's Lieutenant Ward advised the deputy to cancel the pursuit. Dothan Police were responding to assist in the chase by setting up spike strips but the vehicle was traveling at speeds of and over 100 mph.

Houston County Sheriff's Deputes made the right call by stopping the pursuit due to public safety. HOWEVER... It is not known why the driver refused to stop and why they fled at those speeds trying to out run the deputy.

UPDATED @ 6:00 PM

At about 5:16 PM Ozark Police spotted a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle Houston County Sheriff Department had chased. The chase terminated near Montgomery Highway and Ross Clark Circle with the suspect vehicle traveling north on Highway 231.

When the suspect vehicle was spotted on Highway 231 in Ozark it was traveling at speeds of 100 miles per hour and passing Enterprise Road. The suspect vehicle continued north on Highway 231 and went through the traffic light on Highway 231 at Roy Parker Road.

Shortly thereafter the Ozark Police Officer reported he had lost the vehicle at mile marker 54. The suspect vehicle was a white Altma with a black male driver. The suspect vehicle had damage to the front end.

It is unknown why the suspect was fleeing from law enforcement.

PLEASE REMEMBER THIS SAFETY TIP WHILE DRIVING

With so many people who have become just plain stupid, be very careful when driving.

Years ago Siran Stacey lost everyone in his family except one child. He was north bound on Highway 123 at Highway 84 in Wicksburg. The green light changed and Siran pulled from the red light.

A vehicle was traveling from Dothan, west on Highway 84. The vehicle was on the wrong side of the road. That vehicle struck Siran Stacey's vehicle killing his wife and several children.

After Siran's accident and when teaching my children to drive, one of the first things I taught them was the Siran Stacey rule.

Even if you have to right of way, example leaving Walmart South and turning north on Highway 231. Even though you have the green light, before you start to pull off, look to the left making sure everyone has stopped but look to the right to make sure no one is coming on the wrong side of the road.

You always need to look all ways before going through the traffic light. You never know these days and getting worse.

OZARK - DALE COUNTY

Houston County Sheriff K-9 is responding to Dale County. Apparently the vehicle has been located and track dogs are responding that direction to begin a ground search.

UPDATED @ 7:40 PM

The suspect is now in custody in Dale County.
