In emergency services the providers, law enforcement - fire - EMS, have to adapt in seconds to handle emergencies.
That is the case this morning in the west end of Geneva County. A working structure fire which dictates a ambulance on the scene in the event EMS is needed for anyone, most especially the fireman fighting the fire.
Hartford EMS is on the scene. The second Hartford EMS is on a patient transport. Now a medical call comes into 911 and Hartford has no EMS units available and the City Clerk of Hartford can not make EMS runs. So I propose to her, what do you do now?
Slocomb EMS is on a medical emergency on North State Highway 123. Ms. City Clerk, how do you handle? The EMS call in waiting is a resident of Hartford Ms. City Clerk, what do you tell the patient and family?
What you tell them is, Slocomb and Hartford EMS are proactive for the emergencies that have not happened yet. And because of being proactive Slocomb has a ambulance crew ( a second ambulance crew ) who are now on the way. So thankfully you do not have people like the City Clerk in charge of emergency services.
The reason I call the City Clerk out is Slocomb EMS asked Malvern to increase their funding. Apparently the Clerk lives in Malvern and had some comment about it in a critical way. But the funding is needed because all EMS units in the west end of Geneva County are on calls right now. So how do you handle the emergency that has not happened yet? You do not need a ambulance, well until you need it. Waiting to be prepared after the emergency aint real good!
Because RIGHT NOW if another emergency comes in for the west end of Geneva County, the EMS unit will have to respond from Geneva, Wicksburg, Rehobeth or Dothan.
