COWARTS:     07:00 AM     Houston Conty 911 and Dothan 911 dispatched a single vehicle critical injury wreck on Highway 84 just inside the Cowarts City Limits.

One patient entrapped.

Cowarts Volunteer Fire, Dothan Fire, Ashford Rescue, Ashford Fire, Houston County Sheriff Deputies and ALEA - Troopers are on the scene.

Dothan Fire Battalion Chief has notified Alabama Trauma Center and has reported a prolonged extrication.

The utilities company has been notified because of downed power lines.

This accident scene is in the east bound lanes of traffic on Highway 84, on the west side of Cowarts as you exit Dothan City Limits and enter into Cowarts City Limits.

Cowarts Volunteer Fire Department is the primary department of responsibility for this location and Ashford Rescue. Mutual aid request for Ashford Fire Department and Dothan Fire Department. 

This accident was a prolonged extrication. At 07:25 AM the fire and EMS had the patient extricated. The patient was loaded into Ashford Rescue and transported under trauma alert to a Dothan hospital.

This is a single vehicle accident which was traveling east on Highway 84. It appears the vehicle left the right side of the roadway and struck a large concrete utility pole which holds the caution lights up. There are no signs of skid marks and belief the driver hit the pole at full speed and never applied the brakes.

ALEA Trooper Carlton is in charge of the accident investigation.

Cowarts Mayor Randy Rowland assists Cowarts Volunteer Fire and was on the scene.

Scene pictures are being withheld at this time until family is notified.
