ALABAMA:     When I first started in the area of law enforcement in 1977 one of the giants in the law enforcement arena was Captain Sketter Pate. Still remember the gray Ford LTD II he drove.

Captain Pate was the commander of Alabama Bureau of Investigation Division headquatered in Dothan.

Then Captain Doug Nelson was a Alabama State Trooper. From Dothan Captain Doug Nelson lived in Montgomery and retired from a career with the Alabama State Troopers.

Then Captain Doug Nelson's son, Tracy Nelson became an Alabama State Trooper. For a long period of time Captain Tracy Nelson was the Public Information Officer for the Alabama State Troopers. Then for several year Nelson was over the driver license division of the Alabama State Troopers.

Under legislation sponsored by Alabama Senate Pro Tem Del Marsh the Alabama State Troopers was merged into the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, ALEA.

Tracy Nelson was promoted to the rank of Captain. He was assigned to Troop B of ALEA which is Dothan Post and covers a huge territory.

Tracy Nelson's son Pate was named after his great grandfather Captain Skeeter Pate.

Retired Captain Nelson's grandson, Captain Nelson's son, Pate Nelson went to work with Sheriff Donald Valenza at Houston County Sheriff Department. A very good Deputy Sheriff who served Houston County well.

Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza has worked with and around all four generations of the Skeeter Pate/Doug Nelson/Tracy Nelson/Pate Nelson with Alabama State Troopers and ALEA - Troopers.

Recently Deputy Pate Nelson was hired with ALEA as a State Trooper. In the picture below he is shown with his father, Captain Tracy Nelson and State Bureau of Investigation Agent Scott Lee AKA " Fat Boy Lee". ( Scott - do not blame me for that ) Old Trooper dogs with a puppy. Well...well Captain Tracy Nelson has a AKA also " Buddha Belly ". Again - do not blame me!

Congratulations to Pate for carrying on the Nelson tradition, Your great grandfather Skeeter Pate, your grandaddy and your daddy.

You served Houston County well. Look forward to great service to the entire State of Alabama.
