DOTHAN:     3:54 PM    Dothan 911 dispatched a firearm assault 9055 North Bell Street. This location is just north of Tacoma Street intersection.


Dothan 911 received a call that a 31 Year old male subject received a firearm assault injury to the abdomen.


Multiple Dothan Police Patrol units, Criminal Investigation Units, Crime Scene Investigators, Vice Investigators and Command Staff Captains Jason Penn, Rachel David and Will Glover. Dothan Police Chief Will Benny was in a meeting but in constant phone and radio contact with the command staff on the scene.


Dothan Fire Medics, Pilcher Ambulance and Dothan Police Officers on the scene were working on the patient. Law Enforcement were helping EMS and Fire in everywat possible in the treatment of the firearm assault victim, getting him loaded on the stretecher and trauma alert transported to Southeast Health.


Dothan Police roped off the area to secure the evidence for scene processing. Represtatives from the Angel House were on the scene. They respond to assist with scene clean up for the victim's families when law enforcement are clear.


Dothan Police Chief Will Benny said Dothan Police Criminal Investigators are on the scene going all up and down the street locating witnesses. Chief Benny said a preliminary suspect vehicle description has been issued to law enforcement agencies.


Chief Benny said they are to early in the investigation to know all of the facts and investigators are working to gain all of the details.


Dothan Police Chief Will Benny said anyone with information is asked to call Dothan Police Department or CRIMESTOPPERS at 334-793-7000. Calling CRIMESTOPPERS you do not hav to give your name or number and remain confidential.


Chief Benny said it takes a community to keep the community safe and they always welcome information. No matter how important you feel it is, the public never knows how it fits into all of the pieces of information law enforcement has.

Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd was notified of the death shortly after Pilcher Ambulance and Dothan Fire arrived in the Emergency Department of Southeast Health.


The victim is identified as William Roberson.


Dothan Police have a suspect in custody. The suspect is charged with Capital Murder. The reason this case is a Capital Murder case is because the victim was killed in the prescence of someone under the age of 14.


The suspect was arrested and placed in Dothan City Jail. He will later be transported to Houston County Jail where he will have a first appearance before Houston County District Court Judge Benjamin Lewis.


Capital Murder is a death penalty case.
