Vehicle Fire in Opp Closes Highway this Morning

Opp, Al. - Opp Fire was dispatched at 5:17 this morning to a tractor trailer fire on Veterans Memorial Parkway. Engine 7 arrived on scene reporting heavy fire showing from the axle/wheel area of the trailer. The contents inside the trailer was a variety of packaged nuts and no hazardous materials were involved. A 2nd alarm was requested adding Elba Fire to the incident for Tanker/Tender support due to no hydrants in the area. The northbound lanes were shut down for operations and safety. The fire was brought under control with no injuries reported and no damage to the tractor truck. A special thanks to Elba Fire Department, Opp Police Department, Opp Street Department, Preston Boutwell Jr. & Opp Exxon, Alex Wood & A&W Excavating and the Covington County 911 Dispatchers. Both northbound lanes were reopened to traffic at 10:20
