HOUSTON COUNTY: The Wiregrass Public Safety Training Center is the property of the City of Dothan. A facility financed by the Wiregrass Foundation to be used to train emergency responders to better prepare for handling emergencies of all types.
Tonight multiple Volunteer Fire Departments, Cowarts-Kinsey-Webb-Columbia-Taylor-Wicksburg-Headland along with Dothan-Houston County Emergency Management Director Chris Judah spent their time to attend hands on training. The volunteer fireman, who give their time, energies and money, have become one, all working together as a team.
None of the fire and EMS are concerned over the credit or "all about me", but concerned with "we" and a team to care for the citizens of this county and guests. In the 11 months of 2020, the departments outside of the city limits of Dothan were dispatched to 57% of the volume of calls of the Dothan Fire Department.
Dothan Fire Chief Larry Williams, with the support of the Mayor and Dothan Commissioners, has NEVER said no when asked to assist in the county. And they have opened their arms for the paid and volunteer law enforcement across this county to be a part of the Wiregrass Public Safety Center.
In the end, it is the goal of the emergency responders in this county to be unified, to work in partnership with fire-EMS-law enforcement and Emergency Management. To function together for the same common goal.
That is what tonight's training was all about. And that every man and woman goes home to their families after the emergency.
