WICKSBURG: This morning Wicksburg Volunteer Fire - Rescue spent their Mother's Day on the street.
While it is not the duty of the fire department but the duty of the Sheriff Department, ALEA-State Troopers and Houston County Road and Bridge, the volunteers blocked roads with trees down.
The volunteer Fire - Rescue members then cleared the roads. One was on Highway 103 and the other was Highway 92.
Do not know the other roads.
While the departments are in the business of saving lives and property in fires and medical emergencies, they work to protect the community.
Wicksburg and the other departments across Houston County, outside the city limits of Dothan, respond to 49% of the volume of calls handled by Dothan Fire Department.
All 17 fire and 5 EMS that operate outside the city limits of Dothan operate on less than one million dollars. While Dothan has a $ 14 million dollar budget.
LET ME BE CLEAR... Dothan Fire Department never refuses to assist the departments across Houston County. They provide resources needed for advanced life support and at times fire fighting.
The volunteer fire departments save this county a lot of money. Like today in not having to call crews out from Houston County Road and Bridge or ALEA - State Troopers to block the road.
THANK YOU departments for what you do.
