Your Hometown Knows You Best - Former Bingo Defendant Wins Landslide Victory As Mayor

ATTALA:    Your hometown knows you the best.

That was the case on Tuesday in Attala Alabama in the case of former three term Alabama Senator Larry Means.

Senator Means was serving his third term as an Alabama State Senator. In fact, Senator Means and Senator Harri Anne Smith were the only two Senators from the entire State of Alabama which has served as a Mayor.

With 30 days to go until the election date, the three term Democrat Senator was indicted by the United States Public Integrity Unit from Washington D.C. in the gambling probe.

With the arrest of Senator Means  days before the general election he lost his bid for a fourth term as Senator. However his loss was by a narrow margin.

Means and his wife Karen are very faithful people. The cost of the trial broke them financially. However he carried himself through the trial with honor and dignity. Fighting with each of the defendants the Washington D.C. Public Integrity Unit who came to Alabama.

The first trial ended with some not guilty verdicts against Senator Means and some offense where no verdict was reached. Moments following the verdict someone tapped Senator Means on the shoulder to leave the courtroom. Moments before the verdict in the first trial was read Senator Means mother died. The person was calling him from the courtroom to tell him of the death of his mother.

Then came the second trial. Senator Means and his wife carried themselves along with dignity, honor and respect. Again he was fighting for his freedom, dignity and honor, broke and against a well financed prosecution team from Washington D.C. with an unlimited about of money at their disposal.

The verdicts came in, all defendants who fought the Washington D.C. Public Integrity Units were not guilty. Immediately following the verdict Means asked all defendants into one of the rooms in the courthouse to join hands and give a prayer of thanksgiving.

Prior to serving as an Alabama Senator for three times Means served a Mayor of Attala. After encouragement Means decided to seek election as Mayor. Joining him in the race were three other people making the race for Mayor a four person race.

The election results came in last night. Larry Means won election as Mayor of Attala garnering 69% of the votes cast.

The win of Larry Means was somewhat of an additional vindication for each of the defendants which were arrested 30 days prior to their election. The timing, after an agreement with the defense attorneys each would turn themselves in, was ironic being 30 days before the election. Only those in power expect the public to believe them when they say it was not planned to arrest them just before election.

Remember Mayor Means, there is a Senate election in your district in two years. As an independent candidate, hey you could begin to clean up the manure in Montgomery!
