NEWTON: A post office box in Newton has been set up for the community to send condolences or donations to the family of Mr. Charles Albert Poland, who selflessly sacrificed his own life to protect the lives of the children in his care when a gunman boarded his school bus and took a 5 year old child hostage. The address is "Cards for a Hero", PO Box 98, Newton, AL. Tributes can also be delivered to the Newton Town Clerk at 209 Oates Drive, Newton, AL between the hours of 8am and 4pm. The PO box has been reserved for 6 months and will be extended if necessary. Mr. Poland left behind a grieving wife who, in her own words, lost 'the love of her life' and a family that very much depended on him. The family has asked that any 'tributes' not have Mr. Poland's photo on them, but rather a picture of the American flag. Mr. Poland was a kind and gentle man. He can now rest peacefully knowing that all 22 of his children are safe.
