Wiregrass students to be recognized; "Smallest Freedom Fighter" guest speaker

Three high school seniors will be awarded scholarships on May 4 during the annual Chasity D. Barnes Memorial Scholarship Dinner & Silent Auction. The event will mark 10 years of giving scholarships in memory of the Webb, Ala. native. In addition to the awarding of the scholarship, guests will hear from Sheyann Webb-Christburg. Ms. Webb-Christburg was named the “Smallest Freedom Fighter” by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. At age eight, Ms. Webb-Christburg would sneak out of her house to attend meetings. She was the youngest participant to take part in the historically first attempted Selma to Montgomery march known as “Bloody Sunday”. The event is hosted by WSFA 12 News Anchor Tonya Terry and entertainment provided by models from the WonderFULL World of Fashion.Tickets are $30 and must be purchased in advance from chasityschampions.org. No tickets will be sold at the door.
