1st Lt. George Nathaniel Coker III of Dothan passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at the age of 93.


George was born on September 5, 1928 to the late William Edgar Coker and Jessie Maude Keller Coker in Huxford, Alabama. After high school, George attended The University of Alabama, but made an important decision to switch to Auburn University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. In August of 1952, George joined The United States Army as a 2nd Lieutenant and was assigned to the Signal Corps as an Officer of Signal Equipment Maintenance and Repair.  


George married Myrtle Brown Coker and together they raised two sons before her untimely death in 1974, after which he continued to raise his sons with a loving and compassionate heart. George enjoyed watching tv, spending time with his family and friends, and he was a die-hard fan of all Auburn sports.


Survivors include sons, Barry Coker (Jeanine Kuhn-Coker) and Norman Coker (Mae); grandchildren, Hannah Coker, Tiffany Moore (Chris), and Michael B Coker; 2 great-grandchildren; brother, James Coker (Susy); sisters, Millie Purvis and Faye Morris (Mike); and special friend, Faye Forrester.


A graveside service will be held at 2 PM Saturday, April 16, 2022 at Memory Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM at Ward Wilson Funeral Home.
