Addeth Folkes, age 72, a resident of Ashford, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at Southeast Health Medical Center.


Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, April 3, 2021, at Union Springs Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Pansey, Alabama with Reverends Wayne Parker and Norman Simmons officiating and Glover Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends following the services. Flowers will be accepted.


Addeth was born November 12, 1948, to C.L. Folkes and Johnnie Mae Turner Folkes in Cowarts, Alabama. Following graduation from Ashford High School, he joined the U.S.Air Force. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years before his retirement. After his military retirement, he worked as an electrician for many years. He was a member of Union Springs Freewill Baptist Church.


Addeth lived by his own rules and he told many funny stories about his life. The family’s favorite story was when Addeth would get on the school bus at one stop, and get off at the next stop when he decided that he didn’t want to go to school that day.


He loved to work in his vegetable garden and always shared the vegetables with family and friends. Addeth loved Alabama Football and having large family celebrations during the holidays. He especially loved cooking large, country-style breakfasts for his grandchildren.


He is preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie Mae and C.L. Folkes, a sister, Dorothy Folkes, and a grandniece, Megan Elmore.


Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Phyllis Folkes; son, Chris Folkes (Angie) of Headland; stepdaughters, Jennifer Fanning (John) of Dothan, Robyn Simmons (Jeff) of Decatur; beloved grandchildren, Alex Folkes, Madison Folkes, Carter Fanning, Owen Trippany (Angela), Beth Trippany; sisters, Nell Elmore of Cowarts, Fay Folkes of Cowarts, Sue Kirkland of Dothan; nephew, David Elmore (Sheryl); niece, Joan Kirkland.
