Andrea Lee Windham, loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2021, at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta. She was 79 years old.

A private family graveside service will be held at Friendship Richburg Cemetery in New Brockton, Alabama on February 1, 2021. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date when we can safely gather as a group. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Alzheimer’s Association in her memory. www.alz.org

Andrea was born on July 28, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Allen “Bud” and Alice Mack. She graduated from Palatine High School in 1959 and received her teaching degree from Northern Illinois University in 1963. Throughout her 25-year career, she combined her love of teaching with travel, which carried her to several schools around the world, from Okinawa, Japan, to Madeira Beach, Florida.

She married Ray “Sherl” Windham in 1969 and they lived together in Seminole, Florida for 35 years before retiring to New Brockton, Alabama in 2005. Andrea is survived by her two children, Scott (Jennifer) Windham of New Port Richey, Florida, and Sherry (Joe) Coomes of Roswell, Georgia; her grandchildren, Savannah, Brittany, Dylan, Andrea Grace, Thomas, and Erik; her brother, Jere Mack; and many beloved in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Andrea was preceded in death by her loving husband in 2009.

Andrea’s greatest passion in life was traveling, which she fiercely pursued (and achieved) by any means of transportation available and her superb map skills. When she wasn’t trekking around the globe, Andrea enjoyed gardening, HGTV, her cat (Buttercup), and supporting her beloved Chicago Cubs. Andrea’s greatest qualities included her unconditional love and acceptance of all, as well as the strength of character and grace she displayed during her incredibly difficult battle with dementia. She will be dearly missed.
