Andrew Jearl “Andy” Nelson of Samson, AL passed away on Friday, October 1, 2021. He was 71 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 4, 2021 in the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home in Geneva, AL with his sons-in-law, Stacey Mock and Richard Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Marvin Chapel Assembly of God Church Cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Mr. Nelson was born in Troy, AL on December 23, 1949 to the late Jack and Nell Nelson. Andy loved football, especially cheering for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Miami Hurricanes, and Auburn Tigers. He was also a strong supporter of the Samson Tigers. Mr. Nelson was a master carpenter who could build just about anything. His favorite saying in life was, “My children are my greatest creation, and my grandchildren are my greatest blessing”. Andy was a special man who will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his infant sister, Brenda Ann Nelson; two brothers, Herman, and Pee Wee Nelson.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 53 years Joni Sue Nelson; children, Becky (Stacey) Mock, Mike Nelson, Rachel (Richard) Smith, and Steve (Sandy) Nelson; grandchildren, Candice (George) Hamilton, Cayla (J.R.) Fleming, Caitlin (Hector) Ramirez, Christopher (Meredith) Mock, Dakota (and fiancé Emily) Nelson, Cheyenne Nelson, Chayton Nelson, Jacy Nelson, Lainey Grace Smith, Logan Smith, Bailee, Bodhi, Brylee, Brennen Nelson; great grandchildren, Desmond Hamilton, Maggie and Evie Ramirez; one sister, Evelyn James; one brother, Larry (Sis) Nelson, and many special nieces and nephews.
