A celebration of her life will be held at 1 pm on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Wendell Holmes officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 12-1 pm.

Annie Catherine Newton, a resident of Dothan, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2022. She was 95 years old.


A celebration of her life will be held at 1 pm on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Wendell Holmes officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 12-1 pm.


Catherine was born on December 19, 1926 in Coffee County, Alabama to the late Dewey E. and Gracie Clark Lee. She has been a resident of Dothan since 1966. Catherine was employed with Dothan Cigar, Warner Brothers and Globe Motors. After leaving assembly work, she stocked Hallmark cards at several retail stores before she became a food demonstrator at Sam’s Club. She loved to cook for her family and friends. If she knew what you liked to eat, she would have it ready when you got to her house. She was well known for her fourteen-layer chocolate cake. Some of the best memories were of her making great meals for her family and those she loved. Catherine was very creative and loved to paint. She was a member of Place of Grace Church, Slocomb, AL.


Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Newton; her granddaughter, Margo Jenkins; her brother, David Lee; and her sisters, Dorothy Sawyer, Shirley Ammons and Magalene Stephens.


Survivors include her daughters, Sybil (Ritch) Brown, Delane (Roger) Bright and Tammy (Lynn) Kirkland; her grandchildren, Stacie (Matt) Rogie, Michael Jenkins, Tyler (Sara) Kirkland and Colyn Kirkland; her 11 great grandchildren; her sister, Loraine Quattlebaum; her special friend, Bud Chancey; and several nieces and nephews.
