ANNIE  HOWARD  PEEBLES

CLOPTON. . .Annie  Howard  Kelley Peebles, a resident of the Clopton community, died Thursday afternoon, August 15, 2013, in a Dothan hospital. She was 87.

            Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, August 17, 2013, in the Clopton United Methodist Church with Reverend Kenneth Preston and Chaplain (Colonel-Retired) Sonny Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends following the funeral services in the Clopton Community House.

            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Clopton United Methodist Church or the Clopton Methodist Cemetery Fund or the Clopton Community House, all c/o Jackie Blankenship, 2967 County Road 69, Newville, AL 36353.

            Mrs. Peebles was born and reared in the Lawrenceville community of Henry County, daughter of the late Basil Ethan Kelley and Alice Victoria Anderson Kelley. She was a graduate of Abbeville High School and received a degree in Home Economics from Auburn University. In earlier years, Mrs. Peebles taught school in Graceville and Ft. Walton Beach, Florida and also in Blue Springs. A resident of Clopton since 1952, she was an active member of the Clopton United Methodist Church, the U.M.W., the Clopton Home and Garden Club, and the Clopton Book Club. Mrs. Peebles was preceded in death by her husband, James Howell Peebles.

            Surviving relatives include two daughters, Vivia Peebles, Abbeville; Alice Peebles Elliott and husband, George, Homewood, AL; a granddaughter, Grace Elliott, Homewood, AL; sisters-in-law, Doris Peebles Stump, Enterprise; and Joy Peebles, Hazlehurst, GA; a brother-in-law, Sam R. Peebles and wife, Barbara, Slocomb, AL; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a loving church family.

            Serving as active pallbearers will be Ricardo Navarro, Jackie Blankenship, Adam Pritchett, Kyle Anderson, Chad Mesey, Thomas Waters, and Wes Mason.
