Ava G. Blackburn, 84 years of age passed away Tuesday September 13th in Dothan, AL following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, Virginia she was the daughter of the late Meredith and Opal Dale Looney. She was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County, Virginia. Ava was employed at Buchanan General Hospital for many years. She was a 1956 graduate of Grundy High School. She was married to the late Hartsell Blackburn. Ava enjoyed shopping, NASCAR, and the Grand Ole Opry. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Betty Sue Ratliff. Survivors include her daughter Beverly Thomas (Larry), Dothan, AL, Grandson Larry Thomas, II ( Shannon), Lovespark, IL, Brother, Jerry Looney (Anita), Grundy, VA, Nephews: Lance Ratilff (Kelly), Abingdon, VA and Mason Looney, Grundy, VA. Great Nephews and Great Niece: L. J. Ratliff, Jr., Korey Ratliff, and Abigail Ratliff, all of Abingdon, VA. Great Niece Amber Ratliff of Columbus, OH. A special thank you to her nurse that she truly loved, Jennifer Howell. A private family service will be held Thursday, September 22, at Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery in Richlands, Virginia with burial to follow. Evangelist Mike Rife officiating.
