Avis N. Miller, 73, of Dothan passed away in a vehicle accident Thursday August 9, 2012.

Funeral services will be 2 pm Sunday, August 12, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. George Ellison officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Miller was born September 15, 1938 to the late Albert and Fannie Countryman in Monroe County. She graduated from Excel High School in 1957. She later moved to Dothan where she spent over 40 years working in sporting goods. She was employed the majority of that time with C & M sporting goods and McKeen & Wilson of Dothan. Avis was affectionately known to her grandchildren as “Maw Maw.” She enjoyed time with them at home and attending their sporting events. She was preceded in death by her husband James D. Miller.

Survivors include two sons, Tim (Deanna) Brown and Keith (Darlene) Brown; two stepsons, Guy J. (Sarah) Miller and Jason D. (Kimi) Miller; grandchildren, Danielle (Jeremy Smith), T.J., Josh, Cigi, Loren, Bo, Andrea, Kelci, Kailie; two sisters, Elizabeth (Bill) Wright, Phyllis (James) Gordon; a brother, Charles Countryman; several step-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
