NEWVILLE. . .Barbara Smith “Bobbie” Brackins, a resident of Newville, died Friday afternoon, January 6, 2023, at her home. She was 83.


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 10, 2023, in the Tolbert Baptist Church with Reverend Larry Elliott and Reverend Mark Brantley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Monday at the mortuary in Headland. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tolbert Baptist Church, c/o Steve Parrish, 645 County Road 122, Headland, AL 36345.


Mrs. Brackins was born in Columbus, Georgia, daughter of the late William Robert Smith and Julia Marie Crane Smith. She lived in various locations in the United States while her husband served in the U. S. Navy. Mrs. Brackins lived in Norfolk, Virginia  and Jacksonville, Florida before moving to Newville in 1975. She was an active member of the Tolbert Baptist Church where she was involved in most church activities. Mrs. Brackins was retired from Wex-Tex Manufacturing Company as a sewing machine operator and also worked as a seamstress in her home. She was preceded in death by all her brothers and sisters including a special niece, Martha Ellis.


Surviving relatives include her husband of sixty-four years, Charles O. Brackins (Chief Petty Officer, U. S. Navy, Retired), two daughters, Gayle Carter, Headland; and Tammy Deal (Randall), Echo Community; two sons, Ricky Brackins (Della), Headland; and Wade Brackins (Janet), Prattville; grandchildren, Timothy Brackins (Jessica), Joseph Brackins (Priscilla), Julie Caesar (Gavine), Kevin Deal (Lizzy Jacobs), Mark Deal, Andrew Brackins (Alexandra), Rachel Brackins (Fisher Martin), Nathan Brackins (Peri), Lydia Brackins, Amy Peterson (Brett), Gary Carter, III, Drew Carter, Hayden Carter and Hope Culpepper; great-grandchildren, Lillian, Isaac, Brittley, Braylee Kate, Coleton, Valen, David-Lee, and Arabella; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Evie and Craig Netherlands, Leon and Charlotte Jackson, Tommy and Debbie Jackson and Don and Bobbie Jean Jackson; a special son-in-law, David Knowles, numerous special nieces and nephews.


Serving as active pallbearers will be grandsons.


The family would like to express their appreciation to Gentiva Hospice for the loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Brackins during her illness.
