Bart Lee Sims, 64, of Canton, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2024. Born and raised in Geneva, Alabama, Bart was married to his high school sweetheart, Faith Griffin Sims, for over 45 years. They are the parents of Stuart, Courtney, Parker, Alexandra, Kobi, and Isaiah. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother.

To know Bart was to love him. He was a shining light to all who met him. He loved and served his Savior, Jesus Christ, with his whole heart. One minute with Bart was all it took to know his deep, abiding love for God. His desire was for all to be saved, so he shared the gospel every chance he got, and if the way wasn’t clear, he’d pave a path to get there. He was well known as a prayer warrior who diligently prayed for others. Bart was sought out for prayer from a multitude of people he’d met over the years, and he shed many tears when he took those petitions to the Lord. He will be remembered as a beloved friend to all.

He joined the Gideons in 2002 and shared the word of God in many churches with a fervor most had not witnessed. He served as a Gideon until he became an ordained pastor. In that role, he was a guest pastor in many churches and cherished any opportunity to preach the word of God. He served as a chaplain for the jail for many years and deeply loved those he served. Preaching the Word was so fulfilling to Bart. He remembered many of the names of the men he shared with regularly and continued to pray for them daily.

Ultimately, his family was his heart, and he prayed for them continually. His servant’s heart was always for his family. Bart was extremely intelligent and studied his Bible for hours each day. His memory and ability to memorize scripture was unmatched.

He was preceded in death by his son, Stuart Lee Sims, his parents, George and Annie Clyde Sims, his grandparents, and several uncles. He is survived by his wife, five remaining children and 17 grandchildren, his sister Lori Baxter (Jeff) and brother, George (Ann), his nieces and nephews, and brother-in-law, Joey Griffin (Sharon).

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 4th, at First Baptist Church Woodstock at 11:00 am (EST) in the auditorium of Bldg. A. A graveside service will be held in Samson, Alabama, at Travelers Rest Cemetery, on Friday, April 5, at 11:00 am (CST).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to an education fund being set up for their son, who is currently in college. Please make checks payable to Faith Sims and write education fund in the memo line at the bottom.
