BETTY  BLAND  WOOD

 

ABBEVILLE, ALABAMA . . .Betty Bland Wood, a former resident of Abbeville, Alabama, died Sunday afternoon, November 13, 2011, in the Monroe Manor Nursing Home in Monroeville, Alabama. She was 79.

 

            Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A. M. Wednesday, November 16, 2011, in the Old Abbeville City Cemetery with Mr. Darden Kirby officiating. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 10:45 A. M. Wednesday at the mortuary in Abbeville.

 

            In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

 

            Mrs. Wood was born and reared in Abbeville, daughter of the late Oscar Lee Bland and Mildred Augusta Starling Bland. She attended Huntingdon College and Wallace Community College in Dothan. Mrs. Wood was formerly employed in Position and Pay Management at Fort Rucker and in earlier years, was employed in the family owned business, The Bank of Abbeville. She lived all her life in Abbeville until moving to Monroeville eight years ago. Mrs. Wood was a member of the Abbeville United Methodist Church and was an avid fan of  The Crimson Tide.  She was preceded in death by her husband, William Joseph Wood, a sister, Alice Bland Solomon, and a grandson, Greg Wood.

 

            Surviving relatives include two daughters, Melissa Price Brown and husband, James, Dothan; Ellen Price Wiggins and husband, Paul, Monroeville; two step-sons, Bill Wood and wife, Suzanne, Port St. Joe, FL; and Russell Wood and wife, Sharon, Abbeville; a sister, Jule Bland Sellers and husband, Rev. Ennis Sellers, Mobile; seven grandchildren, Andrew Brown, Bethany Wiggins, Rob Wiggins (Caitlin), Michael Wood (Shana), Joey Wood (Anneliese), Jeff Wood (Sherry) and Ryan Wood (Kasie); two great-grandchildren, Mary Kate Wood and Jessa Wood; a special cousin, Jack Fincher, Dothan.
