Betty Capan


Betty Capan, age 89 of the Grimes community, passed away Friday evening, October 30, 2020 at Flowers Hospital following a brief illness.


Funeral services for Mrs. Capan will be held at 2pm Monday, November 2, 2020, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Brother Danny Quincey officiating, assisted by Reverend David Baker. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 1pm. Social distancing guidelines will be observed. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hits for Heroes, 100 Racetrack Road, Dothan, AL, 36303 or Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 1550 Parramore Road, Dothan, AL 36303.


Mrs. Capan was born January 29, 1931 in Dothan to the late Mack and Margaret Mae Key Pearce. She retired as a Supervisor from Warner’s after nearly 27 years. Mrs. Betty will be remembered as a wonderful cook.  She also enjoyed fishing, sewing, and gardening. She enjoyed traveling to Florida to visit with her family every year.


In addition to her parents, Mrs. Capan is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Reynolds Capan and three brothers, Billy Fred Pearce, Johnny Mack Pearce, and James David Pearce. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie H. Capan (Diann); granddaughter Haley Godwin (Cliff), step grandson Caleb Godwin; two brothers, Jimmy Pearce of Dothan and Charles Pearce of Florida; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Cara Mae Weaver, Patricia Ann Carlisle (Horace), Sharon Tucker (Tommy) all of Plant City, Florida. She is also survived by special cousins, Hasty Wiggins (Sherri) and their children Walker and Grace Wiggins, in addition to numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
