BETTY  DUNNIE  MITCHELL

ABBEVILLE. . .Betty Dunnie Mitchell, a resident of Abbeville, died Friday afternoon, May 17, 2019, in a Dothan hospital of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident which occurred earlier on Alabama State Highway 27, south of Abbeville. She was 88.

            Graveside services will be held at a time and date to be announced in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery with Reverend Randy Greene officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside services. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.

            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3054 McGehee Road, Montgomery, AL 36111.

            Mrs. Mitchell was born and reared in Jefferson County near Birmingham, daughter of the late Leopold Dunnie and Julia Dolgas Dunnie. She lived in various locations in the U. S. while her husband served in the U. S. Navy and moved to Abbeville in 1972. She was of the Methodist faith. Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by her husband, James Harold Mitchell, Sr., a daughter, Sharon Beth Mitchell and a son, James Harold “Jimmy” Mitchell, Jr., four brothers and four sisters.

            Surviving relatives include a daughter, Karen Mitchell Sims, Kingston, OK: two sons, Gary Mitchell, Dothan; and Troy Mitchell (Stacey), Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Adrienne Sims, Wesley Sims (Kahle), Cody Braley and Kyle Braley (Elizabeth); great-grandchildren, Jessa Sims and Callie Braley; a sister, Mary Jean Quinn, Beechgrove, TN; and two brothers, James Thomas Dunnie and Joe Douglas, both of Pleasant Grove, AL.
