Betty Forrest Coleman, a resident of Dothan, passed away, Sunday, September 24, 2023, at Wesley Place. She was 91.


Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at First United Methodist Church Chapel with Dr. David R. Saliba and Rev. Allie Freeman officiating. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Rosemere Cemetery in Opelika with Glover Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. prior to service time in the chapel at First United Methodist Church.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Settlement, c/o John McGlowan, 503 County Road 79, Headland, AL 36345, or to the “In Christ Name Fund,” First United Methodist Church, 1380 West Main Street, Dothan, AL 36301.


Miss Coleman was born March 31, 1932, in Opelika, Alabama to Edward Wilson “Bud” Coleman and Kathryne Cannon Coleman. She attended school in Opelika and graduated from Clift High School in 1950. She graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University) in 1954 and later received her Master’s Degree from Auburn University in 1976. She taught school for 26 years at Rose Hill Elementary School, 6 years at Southside Elementary School and 8 years at Grandview Elementary School.


Miss Coleman was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Kay Williams Sunday School Class. She was also a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority and Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.


She is preceded in death by her parents, Edward Wilson Coleman and Kathryne Cannon Coleman and a brother, George Edward Coleman.


Survivors include a brother, John Wilbanks Coleman; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Coleman; special family members and friends, Laura Coleman, Ida Coleman, Elizabeth Gillis, Dorothy Clark, Robert Clark, Terri Francis, Mitzi Watson, and Wileria Casey.


Honorary pallbearers will be the Kay Williams Sunday School Class.
