BETTY  JEAN  PARKER

 

COLUMBIA. . .Betty Jean Brackin Parker, a resident of Columbia, died Saturday afternoon, December 24, 2011, in a Dothan hospital. She was 74.

 

            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A. M. Tuesday, December 27, 2011, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Wayne Newton and Reverend Freddie McCain officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, between Headland and Dothan. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 P. M. Monday at the mortuary in Headland.

            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, c/o Emily Hunter, 3140 Hunter Road, Columbia, AL. 36319.

            Mrs. Parker was a lifelong resident of Columbia, daughter of the late Rufus J. Brackin, Sr. and Verna Mildred Smith Brackin. She was formerly employed by Dothan Cigar & Candy Co., Judy Bond Blouse Co. of Columbia and WestPoint Stevens of Abbeville. Mrs. Parker was an active member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church where she served as secretary. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Boles (Johnny) Parker and two sisters, Frances Holmes and Mildred Newman.

 

            Surviving relatives include a son, Jonathan Parker and wife, Marsha, Columbia; a grandson, Nathan Bradley Parker; four sisters, Henrietta Gray, Dothan; Shirley Bumpus, Columbia; Nelda Prokopchuk and husband, Don, Panama City; Cathy Ross and husband, Bobby, Headland; a brother, Rufus J. (Buster) Brackin, Jr., Columbia; several nieces and nephews.
