SHORTERVILLE. . .Betty Jean Ragan Kennedy, a resident of Shorterville, Alabama, died Saturday, June 5, 2021, at her home. She was 83.

   Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 7, 2021, in the Shorterville Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend George Bryan officiating. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shorterville Baptist Church or the Shorterville Baptist Cemetery Fund, c/o Rossie Money, 2457 County Road 91, Abbeville, AL 36310.
   Mrs. Kennedy was born and reared in Carnegie, Georgia in Randolph County, daughter of the late Homer Bertram Ragan and Clemie Cordelia Johnson Ragan. She lived in Carnegie, GA  before moving to Shorterville in 1980. Mrs. Kennedy was a member of the Shorterville Baptist Church. In earlier years, Mrs. Kennedy was employed by the Headstart Program in the Randolph County School System. She had also been employed as Secretary/Treasurer & Manager and also served on the Board of Directors of the Randolph County Federal Savings & Loan in Cuthbert, GA. In later years, she and her husband co-owned and operated M & M Motors in Shorterville. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Albert Martin, Jr. and Homer W. Kennedy and a sister, Adelyn Goree.

   Surviving relatives include two daughters, Angie M. Simms (Bruce), LaGrange, GA; Laurie A. Martin, Shorterville; two sons, Homer Steve Martin (Jeanie), Morgan, GA; Edgar W. Martin (Kathy), Carnegie, GA; her step-children, Libby Nowell (Raymond), Odenville, AL; and Robert M. Kennedy, Newville;  a sister, Patricia Garmon, Monroe, GA; four brothers, Thomas A. Ragan, Edison, GA; Kenneth Ragan, James C. Ragan, and Walter Robert Ragan, all of Carnegie, GA; numerous grandchildren, great and great-grandchildren.
