Betty Joyce (Godfrey) Shirley passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2012, surrounded by her family and friends. She was 72.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11 A. M. on Saturday, February 18, 2012 from the Chapel of Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Reverend Derik Gentle and Reverend Rick Glenn officiating.  Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home Directing.

 

The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Chapel from 9:30 A. M. until 11:00 A. M. prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Grandview Baptist Church Building Fund.

 

Betty was born July 31, 1939, in Henry County Alabama. She was the daughter of the late Hozy Enoch Godfrey and Linnie Blanch Knowles. She graduated from Houston County High School. She married Millard Shirley in 1961 and they had two sons, and the family attended Smyrn Baptist Church. They later attended Grandview Baptist Church where she was a Bible teacher, Choir member, mentor, and friend to many. Betty worked for a number of years with First National Bank of Dothan. She started as a teller and later in data processing. Later she was employed with Professional Forms Management Inc. of Dothan, where she was vice-president of sales and customer service. She then retired and became granny and mawmaw.

 

She was preceded in death by her former husband, Millard Pierce Shirley of Dothan; mother and father, sister, Willie Alice Johnson, brother, Jimmy Ray Godfrey, and brothers-in-law, Marion Carpenter and Ronald Johnson.

 

Survivors include two sons, Charles A. (Chuck) Shirley of Dothan; Chadwick L.(Chad) Shirley (Michelle) of Henderson, TN; three granddaughters, Nichole, Laura, and Andi Shirley of Dothan; two grandsons, Nathan and Wyatt Shirley of Henderson, TN; one sister, Linnie Carpenter of Dothan; three nephews, one niece, and a host of friends who loved her.
