Betty Ledbetter Long, 89, passed away August 12, 2020 in Bartlett, Tennessee where she had moved from Midland City, Alabama in 2011 to be closer to her daughters.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, August 19, 2020, in the Christian Hill Cemetery, between Midland City and Echo, Alabama, with Reverend Tim Sewell officiating. Social distancing and masks will be observed. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends following the services.

Born in Habersham Country, Georgia near Clarksville, the daughter of the late Henry Baxter Ledbetter and Cora Brady Ledbetter, Mrs. Long grew up in Tallulah Falls, Georgia and always had fond memories of growing up in the Georgia Mountains.

Upon graduation from Piedmont College of Georgia in 1950, Mrs. Long married the love of her life Rev. D. Herbert Long. Devoted to her faith and her family, she sang in the choir, often performing solos, taught Sunday School and performed all the roles of a minister’s wife while teaching school and lovingly caring for her family. The family moved often, living in Alabama, Maine, Ohio, Missouri and Tennessee, as Rev. Long ministered at various churches. She loved cooking good southern meals for her family, genealogy, collecting dolls, gardening and butterflies. Mrs. Long retired as a special education teacher in the public school system of Bonne Terre, Missouri in 1996, and they moved to the Long family homestead in Midland City, Alabama in 1998.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 57 years, Rev. Long, her sister Ruth Simmons, son-in-law Charles N. Dillner, and grandson Randall McDonald.  Surviving relatives include two daughters, Wanda Long McDonald (Randy), Germantown, TN; and Vicki Long Dillner, Memphis, TN; two grandchildren, Kimberly McDonald Walters (Rob) of Boulder, Colorado, and Emily Dillner Moseley (Jamie), of Bartlett, Tennessee; four great-grandchildren, Ella Walters, Ryder Walters, Annabelle Moseley and Eleanora Moseley; a sister-in-law, Martha Long, Midland City; numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to her loving caregivers, particularly those at The Kings Daughters and Sons Home and Apple Grove Assisted Living.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Hill Cemetery Fund, c/o Janet Skipper, 1571 County Road 16, Midland City, AL 36350.
