Betty Lynn Usry Whitehead


Betty Lynn Usry Whitehead, age 61 of Headland died early Tuesday morning, March 12, 2019 at her residence, surrounded by her family and under the care of Covenant Hospice.


 Funeral services will be held at 11AM Thursday, March 14, 2019 at New Zion Free Will Baptist Church with Brother Joey Pettis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Derek L. Wright and Family First Funeral & Cremation Care directing. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 5-7PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice, 1512 W. Main St., Dothan, AL 36301 or to New Zion Free Will Baptist Church, County Road 99, Headland, AL 36345. Serving as pallbearers will be Dan Golden, David Teat, Dennis Cobb, Gary Shelley, Kirby Shelley and Chris Culp.


Betty was born March 6, 1958 in Augusta, GA to the late Edward Usry and Elizabeth Chalker Prescott. She moved to Headland in 1982, where she lived for the remainder of her life. Betty retired from Regions Bank as a Head Teller after many years of service. She was a faithful member of the New Zion Free Will Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir. She was also a member of the Southeastern Association of Free Will Baptist.


In addition to her father, Betty is preceded in death by her father-in-law, Joe Whitehead. Survivors include her husband Jerry Whitehead of Headland; two sons and daughters-in-law, Wesley and Heather Whitehead of Taylor and Ben and Anna Whitehead of Dothan; her mother, Elizabeth Prescott Chalker (Ralph) of Gibson, GA; her mother-in-law, Edna Whitehead of Headland; a brother and sister-in-law, Eddie and Kathy Usry of Gibson, GA; a sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Keith Morris of Thomson, GA; a brother-at-heart, Larry Whitehead; four grandchildren, Brooke Whitehead, Tara Whitehead, Katie Claire  Whitehead and Laura Beth Whitehead; several nieces and nephews survive in addition to her special four-legged companion, Princess.


The family would like to extend a special thank you to Marlena Ethridge, Dan Golden and the Staff at Covenant Hospice.
