DOTHAN. . .Betty V. Smith Herried, a resident of Dothan, died Friday morning, December 9, 2011, in a Dothan hospital. She was 76.



            Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P. M. Sunday, December 11, 2011, in the Midland City Cemetery with Reverend T. P. Martin officiating. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 P. M. Saturday at the mortuary in Headland.



            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Attn: Memorial Chairperson, P.O. Box 2123, Dothan, AL 36302.



            Ms. Herried was a native of Dale County, near Midland City, daughter of the late Joseph Z. Smith and Vera Lee Hall Smith. She formerly lived in Columbia where she was a graduate of the Houston County High School. Ms. Herried also lived in Midland City before moving to Dothan twenty years ago. She was employed as a Private Duty Sitter in home healthcare for many years. Ms. Herried was preceded in death by two brothers, James J. Smith and Ernest Hall.



            Surviving relatives include a daughter, Patricia Carroll and husband, Don, Headland; three grandchildren, Donna Layton, James Carroll, and Michael Carroll and wife, Katie; four great-grandchildren, Laura Carroll, Alivia Layton, Taylor Carroll and Jaxson Carroll; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
