Billy Gene Ott

Billy Gene Ott, known affectionately to friends and family as Billy, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2024, in Dothan, Alabama, at the age of 81. Born on November 7, 1942, in Slocomb, Alabama, he was a man whose life was characterized by his loving nature, deep faith, and remarkable handiness.

Billy's journey began as the cherished son of William Franklin "W.F." Ott and Minnie Bell Ott. His early years in Slocomb set the stage for a life filled with love, hard work, and service. Although he is now preceded in death by his parents, his brother Carlton, and a sister, Brenda Henderson, his legacy continues through his family and the countless lives he touched.

Billy's professional life was marked by his role as a skilled mechanic specializing in front-end alignments at Sears. His mechanical aptitude and entrepreneurial spirit later led him to own and operate several businesses, where he not only served the community's vehicles but also its people with a warm smile and a helping hand. His work ethic and dedication to his craft were evident to all who knew him.

Beyond his work, Billy was deeply involved in his community and took great joy in his associations. He was a man of faith who prayed constantly, and his commitment to his beliefs was a guiding force throughout his life. Billy's competitive nature shone through in his love for games, whether he was playing a round of putt-putt golf or challenging friends and family to a spirited game of cornhole. His kind and giving spirit made these moments not just games but cherished memories for all involved.

Billy's interests extended to the simple pleasures of life. He was known for his love of tinkering and could often be found fixing or building something. This handiness was a trait that served him well both personally and professionally and was something he passed down to those around him.

He leaves behind a family who adored him, including his daughters, Teresa Stockton (Wade), Susan Ott, Patricia Ott, and Maria Ott. His legacy will also live on through his many loving grand and great-grandchildren, who will miss their grandfather's warmth and guidance. Billy's sisters, Jo Ann Stinson and Carol Bridges, will remember their brother with fondness and love. Additionally, a special friend, Alicia Reed, will cherish the memories and moments shared with Billy.

Billy's life was a testament to the impact one person can have through simple acts of kindness, a steadfast presence, and an unwavering commitment to family and friends. His love and lessons will continue to echo in the lives of those he touched, and his memory will be a beacon of love and faith for generations to come.
