Billy Reese Phillips was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, May 28, 2023 after a brief battle with glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at the First Baptist Church Enterprise Fellowship Hall with Dr. Ben Bowden and Rev. John McCrummen officiating and Searcy Funeral Home & Crematory directing. Burial will follow at Meadowlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until service time at the First Baptist Church Enterprise Coffee Bar. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to First Baptist Church Enterprise Student Ministry. Checks may be mailed to FBCE at 302 North Main Street, Enterprise, AL 36330.
Billy was born November 15, 1956 to Al & Irene (Cain) Phillips in Thomasville, GA. He graduated from Dublin High School in Dublin, GA in 1974 and joined the US Army at the age of 17. He served his country as a helicopter pilot in many locations, including Germany, Korea, Honduras, the Panama Canal Zone, and during Desert Storm. After 24+ years of service, he retired August 31, 2001 as a Chief Warrant Officer 4.
After Billy retired from the US Army, he continued to serve his country as a Department of the Army Civilian (DAC) for almost 20 years as an Instructor Pilot at Fort Rucker in the UH-60M Blackhawk.
Billy was a devoted husband, father, son, and friend. He enjoyed flying, skydiving, hunting, fishing, grilling, and sharing his faith. He served many years in Children and Student Ministry at Open Door Baptist Church, Hillcrest Baptist Church, and First Baptist Church Enterprise.
He was preceded in death by his father Al Phillips; brother Tim Phillips; and son Trevor Phillips.
Left behind to cherish his memories are his wife of almost 27 years, Sandra; sons Carson and Tim; mother, Irene Phillips; brother, Cliff Phillips (Kathy); sister, Connie Holland; mother-in-law Jewell Allen; father-in-law, Clifford Harris (Glenna); and a host of other family, friends, comrades, and former students.
