Blondell Purvis Garrett, a resident of Wesley Manor, passed away  Wednesday, July 25, 2012. She was 97.


Funeral services will be held at 11 A. M. Friday, July 27, 2012 from the chapel of Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Reverend Doug Seale officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home Directing. Visitation will be from 10 A. M. until 11 A. M. one hour prior to the service.        


Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to your favorite charity.


 


Mrs. Garrett was born September 28, 1914 in Geneva County, Alabama, the youngest and last surviving child of Edward C. and Sarah E. (Bay) Purvis. She lived her early life on a farm near Malvern and Slocomb until the family moved to Dothan where she graduated  from Dothan High School ( now the Library). She was preceded in death by her parents; Two sisters and her husband; W. Hill Garrett.


Her work career included secretarial positions with law firms, first secretary with social security board and concluding with secretary to the president  ( Mr. Wallace Malone ) of the First National Bank; later South Trust Bank; becoming Wachovia – Wells Fargo. She retired in 1977.


 


She had been an active member of business and professional women’s club and the Pilot club president. She was a member of Episcopal Church of the Nativity where she served as secretary for the annual meetings for many years. She was active in Wiregrass Amateur Radio Club where she became Licensed in her seventies. She also participated in her subdivision activities on Wood Creek Drive.


 


She is survived by several nieces and nephews
