Bobby Gene Monk, age 91, a life-long resident of Cottonwood, passed away, on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at Marianna Health and Rehab Center following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Cottonwood First Baptist Church with Reverend Jimmy Bolin officiating. Burial will follow at Cottonwood City Cemetery with Glover Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 9:00 until 9:45 a.m., prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to, Cottonwood First Baptist Church, 12702 Cottonwood Road, AL 36320.

Bobby was born June 13, 1932, in Houston County, to the late Cade Jefferson and Brownie Vickers Monk. He was a 1950 graduate of Cottonwood High School. Bobby proudly served 3 years in the United States Marine Corps after graduation. Following his military service, he worked as an insurance salesman and served as Mayor of the Town of Cottonwood for 24 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janis Ward Monk; a sister, Renee Pitts; and a grandson, Cade Monk.

He is survived by his three sons, Jeff Monk (Gail), David Monk (Gemma), and Sidney Monk all of Cottonwood; three grandchildren, Jesi Whitehead, Jared Monk, and Seth Monk; a great-grandchild, Bryson Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.
