ABBEVILLE. . .Burns Jerome Benton, a resident of Abbeville, died Tuesday morning , July 3, 2018, in the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility. He was 71.


  Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Thursday, July 5, 2018, in the Calvary Baptist Church with Reverend Teddy Ward officiating. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:30 P.M. Thursday in the church sanctuary. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of Tommy and Stephanie Stevens in the Echo Community.


  Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church, 310 Dothan Road, Abbeville, AL 36310.


  Burns Benton was born in Houston County and was reared in Newton, son of the late Dewey Benton and Corine White Benton. He lived in Abbeville for the past forty years. Burns was formerly employed by BankSouth and WestPoint Stevens. Burns was preceded in death by five sisters, Sara Pearl Key, Ouida Scalley, Barbara Waters, Betty Glover and Sylvia McNab and a brother, Jimmy Benton.


  Surviving relatives include two daughters, Stacey Benton LaFiore (Michael), Dothan; and Stephanie Benton Stevens (Tommy), Echo Community; four grandchildren, John Stevens, Jeff Stevens, Preston Stevens and Anna LaFiore; two brothers, Billy Benton (Joyce), and Wayne Benton (Carolyn), all of Dothan; a brother-in-law, Herbert Waters, a sister-in-law, Peggy Benton.


  The family would like to express their appreciation to Laura and Jenny Braswell, the staff of the Henry County Health and Rehabilitation Facility and also Nicole Stafford of Kindred Hospice for the loving care and kindness shown to Burns during his illness. A special thank you to the citizens of Abbeville for loving our Daddy for the last forty years.


  Serving as active pallbearers will be John Stevens, Jeff Stevens, Preston Stevens, Kenny Walding, Mark Walding and David Money. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Money and Mitchell Dowling.
