Carl Lamar Dees, a long time resident of Dothan, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2011 surrounded by his family at his bedside. He was 88.


Funeral services will be held 2 pm Monday, December 26, 2011 at Sunset Memorial Park with Rev. Bill Smith officiating. Burial with Military Honors and Masonic rites will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 1-2 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Flowers are being accepted or memorial donations may be made to First Christian Church, 1401 N. Cherokee Ave., Dothan, AL, 36303, or to Covenant Hospice, 104 Rock Bridge Rd., Dothan, AL, 36303.


Mr. Dees was born April 12, 1923 in St. Augustine, FL and resided in Miami, FL the early part of his life. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1941 and served until 1962. Following his retirement he was employed with Hayes Aircraft for several years and owned and operated Dees Music Store until he fully retired in 1985. Lamar was a long time member of First Christian Church, a 32nd Degree Mason in Dothan Masonic Lodge #466, Scottish Rite, Shriner, Fleet Reserve Association, and DAV. He was a WWII Veteran, serving over 20 years in the U.S. Navy. Lamar was preceded in death by his parents, a son Michael Lamar Dees of Texasville, AL, and brothers, Leo Dees, Harold Dees, and Chubby Wise.


Survivors include his wife of 52 years Marion Dees of Dothan; a son Stephen (Patti) Dees of Edgewater, FL; daughters, Stella (Hubert) Knight and Cathy (Pat) Lokay both of Dothan; a daughter-in-law Lucy Dees; grandchildren, Carrie (John) Irby, Randy Lokay, Theresa Dees, Cortney Dees, Suzi (Hill) Carlile, Joey (Tipp) Dees, Amanda (Jared) Johnson, and William (Kristina) Dees; 13 great-grandchildren.
