    DOTHAN. . .Carlos Roy Shipes, Jr., a resident of Dothan, died late Tuesday night, July 26, 2022, at the age of 88.


    Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, July 30, 2022, in the Bethel Baptist Church, Cottonwood Road, with Dr. Ricky Plummer and Reverend Don Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, between Headland & Dothan. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 P.M. Saturday in the church sanctuary. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.


    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bethel Baptist Church, 3257 E. Cottonwood Road, Dothan, AL 36301.


    Mr. Shipes was born and reared in the New Prospect Community of Henry County, son of the late Carlos Roy Shipes and Lottie C. Brown Shipes. He served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War era. Mr. Shipes lived in Dothan most of his adult lifetime.  He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. Mr. Shipes retired from Jeffcoat Equipment Company where he was employed as Service Manager. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Adie Bell Shipes and Nina Parris, and three brothers, Thomas Shipes, Ben Shipes and Patrick Shipes.


    Surviving relatives include his wife, Jo Ann Brannon Shipes, two daughters, Becky Shipes, Lisa Pratt (Michael), and two sons, Anthony Carl “Tony” Shipes (Elizabeth), and Carlos Randall “Randy” Shipes (Carla), all of Dothan; a sister, Virgie Joyner (Gerald), Cottonwood; a brother-in-law, Bill Parris, Dothan; seven grandchildren, Todd Shipes, Tucker Shipes (Devan), Christie Hudson (Johnny), Dustyn Monday, Amber Carlisle (Austin), Summer Pratt (Scott), and Garrison Pratt; seven great-grandchildren, Savannah Pratt, William Hudson, Tyler Hudson, Abbigail Monday, Laklyn Monday, Elison Shipes, and Harlow Jane Shipes, numerous nieces and nephews, several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law from the Brannon family.


    Serving as active pallbearers will be Garrison Pratt, Todd Shipes, Tucker Shipes, Dustyn Monday, Johnny Hudson and Scott Andrews.
