Caroline Winifred Coleman (Carol), 76, of Fort Gaines, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, in the Calhoun Nursing Home.  She was born at Patterson Hospital in Cuthbert to the late Stephen Daniel Coleman, Jr. and Eleanor King Coleman on May 22, 1947.


She received a BS Degree in Elementary Education from Georgia Southwestern and a master’s degree in Elementary Education from Valdosta State University.  She later received an add-on master’s in Education Administration from Troy State University in Dothan, Alabama.


 After teaching for eighteen years in Albany and Cuthbert, Carol served as an assistant principal at Randolph County Elementary School for twelve years.


She was a member of the Clay County Library Board for many years and a member of the Kinchafoonee Library Board for several years.  Carol served as the chairman of the Clay County Library Board for eighteen years. 


Carol’s main hobby after retirement was compiling Fort Gaines newspaper articles from1889 to the 1930s into books.


She was a lifelong member of the Fort Gaines United Methodist Church.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Stephen “Steve” Daniel Coleman, III.  Survivors include her sister Elizabeth “Betty” Coleman Clewis (Fred); sister-in-law, Rhonda Kerr Coleman, nephew, Scott Daniel Coleman (Ann) and a great nephew and a great niece, Daniel and Mary Remington Coleman.  She also leaves behind special family friend, Ivey Graham Peterson, and loving caregivers, Yolanda Wesley, Alice Pete, Nakeisha Cannon, and Jaquanna Wesley.


Visitation with the family will be held at the Fort Gaines United Methodist Church at 2:30 PM on Sunday, June 11, 2023.  Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM at the church with the Reverends Randy Spicer and Mike Hartley officiating. Interment will follow in the New Park Cemetery, Fort Gaines.
