CARRIE BELL ROBERTS DUKE


ABBEVILLE.… Carrie Bell Roberts Duke, a resident of the Thomas Mill Creek Community of Lake Eufaula, formerly of Columbia, passed away Saturday morning, March 21, 2020. She was 77.


             Because of the COVID-19 epidemic and according to State of Alabama Department of Public Health mandate of no more than 25 people at a gathering, the funeral for Mrs. Duke will be limited to the immediate family. They will have a Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Carrie Bell Roberts Duke at a later date. However, visitors will be allowed to sign a register and pay their last respects if they so desire at the funeral home after 12:00 P.M. on Monday, March 23, 2020. Please limit your group to no more than 10 persons at a time.


            A private Graveside Service will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, near Headland with Reverend Troy West and Reverend Mark Brown officiating. Wright Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.


            Mrs. Duke was born in Cottondale, Florida to the late Oscar C. Roberts and Foye Belle Baxley Roberts. She attended Houston County High School where she met her husband (William Coy Duke), of fifty-nine years. While in school she was a part of the group (Medley Four) that sung as part of the 4-H Club. They won a singing contest at the county level in Dothan, Alabama and went on to win 2nd place in the state contest. Mrs. Duke loved to sing about her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She sang in her church choir, performed solos at church, and sang at many friends’ and families’ funerals. She is now singing in Heaven. Mrs. Duke also taught Children’s Church for many years at Ashford First Assembly of God. She served in the Women’s Ministry at Northside Assembly of God in Dothan, Alabama, where she started the Helping Hands outreach ministry in which she assisted in giving wedding and baby showers, planning meals for people who were sick or for the families that had a loved ones to pass away. She also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. There were many children that came to the lake with her grandchildren that would call her “MeMaw’ as well because she treated them all like her own.


            Along with her parents, Mrs. Carrie was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Sweatt; her brother-in-law, Frank Duke; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.


            Leaving to cherish her memories are her husband of fifty-nine years, William Coy Duke; her daughter, Tina Money of Headland; her son, Tim “Bubba” Duke of Dothan; her granddaughter, Jenifer Duke; her grandsons, Peyton Money (McKenzie) of Amarillo, Texas and Preston Money of Headland; her sisters, Louise Lambert (John) of Dothan, and Joyce Brock (Bill) of Dothan; her brothers & sisters in law, Hubert Earl & Judy Duke of Columbia, John Earl and Tuwanna Trammell of Columbia, and Joyce Duke of Auburndale, Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews and a host of friends, including a special family friend, Virginia Guess of Dothan.
