Catherine Louise Fitts Bryant of Dothan passed away peacefully at home on February 9, 2024, at the age of 97. Born December 11, 1926, in Tate, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Eva Griffeth Fitts and Thomas Jefferson Fitts.

Mrs. Bryant graduated from Tate High School in Tate, Georgia and Georgia State College for Women currently known as Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, Georgia, with a BS degree in Home Economics Education. After moving to Perry, Florida to teach school, she met Ted Bryant, Jr. to whom she was married 61 years before his death in 2010. From Perry, the couple moved to Columbus, Georgia, where Mrs. Bryant also taught school until her husband’s job took them to the other Georgia cities of Atlanta, Macon, and Rome, and then back to Perry. In 1965, Dothan became her final home for the next 59 years. During this time, Mrs. Bryant furthered her education at Troy University and taught second grade in Dothan City Schools: Selma Street and Heard Elementary. Upon retirement, she had taught a total of 33 years in Dothan while having also taught several years in Florida and Georgia.

Together Mrs. Bryant and her husband raised their three children, emphasizing the importance of faith in God, followed by love for family and others which  included the importance of Christian values, family, education, work ethic and commitment. In addition to their children, she genuinely loved her eight grandchildren along with her fourteen great grandchildren. She enjoyed nothing more than cooking for a house full of family and attending any of her children’s activities as long as she was able.

Throughout her life, Mrs. Bryant faithfully attended church. She was a member of First Baptist Church Dothan where she also belonged to a ladies Sunday School class. As an educator, she was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Dothan Education Association, AEA and NEA. She also participated in her neighborhood Garden Club and PTA plus volunteered as both a Brownie and a Girl Scout leader. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, reading and watching Auburn athletics.
