Charles “Alf” Ellis of Samson, AL passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2023. He was 79 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2023, in the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home with Minister Harry O. Adkison officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be made in Mr. Ellis memory to a charity of your choice.

Mr. Ellis was born on April 8, 1944, to the late Robert Franklin and Catherine Willis Ellis.  Alf, along with his wife Sue, successfully owned and operated Ellis Western Auto in Samson for over 50 years. He enjoyed fishing, working in his yards, and spending time at the lake with family and friends. Alf was truly happiest when he was spending time with his wife, Sue. He enjoyed their many trips together, whether they were riding motorcycles, fishing at the lake or simply working in their yards together.     

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Bettie Sue Griffin Ellis; sister, Louise Caldwell; brother, Bobby Ellis, and a brother-in-law, Jim Caldwell.

He is survived by two daughters, Susan Ellis Brookins (Lynn) of Headland, AL and Catherine Ann Ellis Brownlee (Donald) of Dothan, AL; two step-grandchildren, Kyle Brookins, stationed in the U.S. military and Kyndle Rogers (Elijah) of Brandon, MS; two step great-grandchildren, Kaelyn and Savannah Rogers of Brandon, MS; stepmother, Mrs. Christine Ellis of Dauphin Island, AL; step brother, Don Herring (Laurie) of Dauphin Island, AL; sister-in-law, Ruth Ellis of Opp, AL; and many special nieces and nephews.
