ASHFORD. . .Charles Marion “Joe” Blalock, a resident of Ashford, formerly of Abbeville, died Thursday afternoon, March 30, 2023, at his home. He was 75.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Sunday, April 2, 2023, in the Hickory Grove Free Will Baptist Church, Abbeville, with Reverend Terry Drinkwater officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 P.M. Saturday at the mortuary in Abbeville and also from 3:00 until 4:00 PM Sunday in the church sanctuary.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Hickory Grove Free Will Baptist Church, 939 Hickory Grove Road, Abbeville, AL 36310.

Joe Blalock was a native of the Tumbleton Community and was reared in Abbeville where he lived most of his lifetime. He retired from the Army National Guard in the Abbeville unit with rank of Sergeant after twenty-seven years service. Joe was formerly employed by Greenbush Logistics in Abbeville as a truck driver. In earlier years, he was employed by Murphy-McGee Oil Company of Abbeville and Lavender Trucking Company of Crawford, Alabama. Joe was a member of the Hickory Grove Free Will Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Littleton Blalock and Iona Jewel Blankenship Blalock, two sisters, Mary Lee and Judy Beasley and a brother, Clarence Robert Blalock.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Beverly Fulton Blalock, a daughter, Becky Pierce (Royce), Dothan; two sons, Jimmy D. Dansby (Marsha), Shorterville; and Arizona James “A.Z.” Williams, Ashford; three step-children, Angie Jimerson (Tony), Dothan; Michael Shelley, Ashford; and Jeffrey Williams; a sister, Martha Hendricks, Abbeville; brothers-in-law, Bill Lee, Abbeville; and Kenneth Fulton, Pansey; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
